Bay Saint Louis is a town in Hancock County, Mississippi, United States. On August 29, 2005, at 10 Am morning, Hurricane Katrina touched in the west of the city. It struck at the Pearl River, with a 28-foot storm surge. Hurricane Katrina came ashore during the high tide of 9:15 AM, +2.3 feet more. That results in a storm tide over 30 feet deep. Hurricane Katrina damaged the Public Library of Bay Saint Louis. The Bay St. Louis Bridge on US Highway 90 was also destroyed, with many bridge section parts down-dropped dangerously at the west edges. In Bay Saint Louis, the picture was dangerous. The Residents returned to unspeakable devastation. Peoples are hanging in trees, trying to survive. They know the loss of friends and family. The Katrina killed 238 people in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi.
The library opened again to the public on 12th Oct 2005. The destroyed bridge was severely damaged, so its replaced by a new Bay St. Louis Bridge. Bay St. Louis received a federally-fund for overhaul and replacement everything that gets damaged. The Ms. Coast is rebuilding, but it will never be the same. Much of the historical landmarks are gone. After the storm, you couldn’t even find your way around the block because all of the landmarks were gone. Thank you for the encouraging story. I’m very proud of the Gulf Coast and surrounding communities. Everyone rolled up their sleeves and starting rebuilding the town as much they can. No political, religious, or racial division. Just people were helping people. This area is coming back strong, given that Gulfport-Biloxi is closer than Baton Rouge makes a strong case for a single metropolitan area from Baton Rouge to Mobile, with over 3.2 million residents. Now, with the federal money that mostly paid for those projects drying up the rebuilding are finished. Bay St. Louis is running out of cash and faces a new challenge. To won a war of recovery, how to survive a return to normal in its aftermath. The City leaders have proposed a 28 percent property tax increase after raising water bills 18 percent last year. But as some residents want more spending cuts, such as neighboring Waveland made in 2011, instead of higher taxes. The property tax increase raising about $650,000 a year would generate money for future capital projects.
But as in 2017, the pictures are changed. Bay Saint Louis has almost recovered from the Hurricane Katrina attack. If you visit today, you can not imagine the previous picture. The gambling industry runs again smoothly with the famous casinos like – Hollywood Casino, Silver Slipper Casino & Resort Gulf Coast, Torguson Gaming Group, etc. The casinos also donate some amount to the charity thus the rebuilding of the town can be easy. Because the casinos won’t do business in a broken town, they need the tourists and the visitors. Other places like St. Rose de Lima Catholic Church, St. Augustine seminary & grotto, Galactic golf course, art & antique museum, St Louis mardi gras museum also suffer from the Hurricane Katrina attack. But its gods wish, and they rebuild the place where it’s necessary. If you visit today, you may see colorful buildings, shops, stores, but the real story keeps in the heart of the people of Bay Saint Louis. A person who may lose someone in Hurricane Katrina attack, May not forgot that at all. But they keep up as everyone does.
